The Role
As an R&D Embedded Software Engineer, you will work on the embedded software platform supporting our next-generation communication systems.
You will work across embedded Linux, C/C++, Linux kernel development, FPGA integration, networking and automated development infrastructure. The role involves both developing new functionality and solving complex integration and system-level challenges.
You will collaborate closely with engineers across software, hardware and R&D, giving you the opportunity to influence both the technology and how it is developed.
Key Responsibilities
Integrate external components, libraries, drivers, device-tree elements and related dependencies into our internal embedded platform
Develop and maintain Linux kernel and user-space drivers
Support the integration of FPGA-based processing into embedded systems
Configure, build and maintain embedded Linux systems
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated image building, testing and deployment to target devices
Work with Linux networking and system-level integration
Investigate and resolve complex hardware/software issues
Use debugging tools such as GDB and JTAG
Contribute to unit testing and automated test frameworks
Configure, compile and maintain Linux kernels
Contribute to system-level technical documentation
Collaborate with software, hardware, FPGA and R&D engineers
Technical Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in embedded software and an interest in low-level systems.
You have:
Strong programming skills in C/C++
Good experience with Bash scripting
Solid experience with Linux-based embedded systems
Experience with Linux kernel and driver development
Experience with Make, CMake or similar build systems
Experience with Buildroot, Yocto or similar embedded Linux distributions
Experience integrating FPGA-based systems with embedded software
Experience configuring and compiling the Linux kernel
Good understanding of Linux networking
Experience with debugging tools such as GDB and/or JTAG
Understanding of unit testing and automated testing frameworks
Experience with Git and modern software development workflows
Experience with Kuiper Linux or similar embedded Linux distributions is an advantage.
What We Value
You are a technically curious and analytical engineer who enjoys understanding how systems work at a deeper level.
You are comfortable working on problems where the solution is not always obvious and enjoy moving between software, hardware and system-level challenges.
We are looking for someone who:
Takes ownership and works independently
Has strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Enjoys investigating complex technical challenges
Is proactive and eager to learn new technologies
Can turn technical concepts and research into practical solutions
Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively with other engineers
Is comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment
Good level of spoken/written English is required. Norwegian language skills are an advantage.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to work on advanced technology where engineering performance really matters.
You will not simply be maintaining an established product. You will contribute to the development of new technology and work on challenging problems across embedded software, FPGA, networking and wireless communication.
